Have you ever seen the norther lights? Well if you haven’t it doesn’t always fill the sky and when it does it’s cold. Very cold. This, by no means, makes it less worth it. If anything it makes it feel real. This piece is an Acrylic ink piece and it is something I made thinking of the northern lights. I was also thinking of Alaska as I painted. Hence the choice of creatures, ravens and a polar bear. Ravens are everywhere in Alaska and personally I think polar bears are one of the most mystical creatures of that place. I lived in Alaska for several years and while I saw many ravens I did not see a polar bear. Not surprising but also a little disappointing, though I was not disappointed when it came to the northern lights. I saw those many times and it always left me breathless. I can’t really describe the deep lights and vibrant colors to someone that hasn’t seen them so it helps to just say that they are otherworldly and beautiful. This combined with my fascination with polar bears created this idea. Its a mix of my own experiences and my imagination. What would your Spirit of the Northern Lights look like?
