Caged wings is one of my favorite pieces, it may be smaller in size but it is expressive. I made this piece with acrylic inks and it holds my own feelings about change. If you want change in your life you have to initiate it. You have to have the strength to spread your wings and when you do you create your own gravity. The birds flock to your side, the earth blooms to life around you and in the darkness your color splatters across the page to change it in the way you want. Watercolors tend to bleed and make shapes that you don’t always intend but the brush is in your hand, the act of painting is a choice and it is yours to make. My feeling of being stuck in a decision and breaking free with one motion. The choice to be a different person. This piece started a love for the use of silhouettes in the abstract. This being the first of many abstract pieces with silhouettes. The power of what you don’t see is just as great as what you do see. I hope that this inspires someone else too!
